We spend so much time in the book…we even have it with us when we step out at night to find a place to eat…might want to read about the local town, or it might have the map that helps us find our way home. Simply put, without the map we would be lost on a daily basis. Oh, sure, its hard to get lost on the Camino because there are are arrows and signs all over (although at times there are confusing arrows and signs too). But what about those bathroom breaks, and how long and how far to lunch…and how do we find our hostel after 7 hours of walking without meandering all over the town? You get the picture.
So, today as we walked, I wondered…is there anything in our lives similar to this guidebook for the Camino? What do we use to plan our day around? What show us The Way? Where the dangerous descents might be? Where confusion may be located? How to get from one location in life to another, from one hour to another?
I have to admit, I’ve spent a lot more time with “the book” during this Camino than I have in prayer during this Camino…and maybe that isn't all bad. Maybe this will give me a form, a function, a model, an informed pathway to prayer as I exit the Camino de Santiago and continue along The Way of Jesus Christ.
What about you…do you have “the book”?
Ultreya!
